The Design of Your Storefront is The Reason I Walked In

SEVEN Ways That Design Affects Your Small Business

1. Clarity and design are two peas in a pod. "Design enables communication and allows information to be heard." - @parkhere #DMBunite

2. "Design is a human act, not a numbers act" - @mechanica

3. "Design is consideration and understanding how things are used" - @mechanica

4. “You can be a small brand but make big impact“

5. We all crave just to be seen and be heard. Stop following the script. Companies need to adapt to the human part.

6. "Be informed by data, not ruled by data."

7. "Strategically align your brand identity with what you do" - @mechanica

Small business owners and personal brands have so much on our plates that small details easily slip through our fingers. Design Museum Boston and Smarty, a community of women in business, held a discussion on how design impacts every aspect of a small business. The event was hosted by MOO.COM at their Boston headquarters; this event was one of Moo's first since opening in mid 2013. The panelists included: Amy Crosby, brand strategist and founder of SMARTYLibby Delana, creative director and principle at the award-winning design agency Mechanica, and Jake Cohen co-Founder of the tech marketing start-up Privy, with moderation by Jen Reddy, SVP, Global Marketing at Communispace.

Moo had an amazing set up and great atmosphere for networking. The Moo team was very friendly and laid back. They gave out stickers, nametags, and conversation starters upon check-in and had an impressive spread of appetizers and drinks (food was supplied by The Bees Knees Market). I love how ironic it was to have a networking event hosted at a business card head quartersThe attendees had the opportunity to design customized business cards and receive them free at the event. I walked away with a beautiful stack of Moo cards for my blog.

Join Design Boston Museum at their next event, where they will be visiting the best brewery in town, Harpoon’s Brewery, on February 4, 2014!
