Quote Of The Day: 09/30/2012

Cheerleading makes people think differently. Liberty is not just a statue in New York, Pyramids aren’t something you find in Egypt, and jumps are more then just a game of leapfrog.

Thrift Store Whore

These days it's not hard to find vintage, interesting, and cool pieces from thrift/consignment stores. Below are some cute tops my friend and I picked out, to show you guys the wide range of items you could leave with for wicked affordable prices. That cute flannel at Macy's or Nordstorm would cost you anywhere from $30 to $60 but at the thrift store a whooping $5 is the only thing you are pulling out of your wallet. Just the experience of being in a thrift store is something cool to go through. You look at a weird shirt and wonder who designed this? who brought this? who actually wore this and when did it look cool? Well, that's when you judge whether or not it would look good on you. Most of the time I quickly dismiss that thought, but there's always those few items that call my name and get me to drag them to the cash register and out the door.

Shop in Style: Bring friends for support and a fun experience!

Wear comfy clothes to the thrift store. This helps if you need to try something on, you can just pull it over your t-shirt and leggings. Thrift stores are sometimes dusty places, just make sure you are comfortable and up for the challenge!

College Visit to Harvard University

Today I am heading to Harvard for a conference. I will post pics, OOTD, and etc. from today!

One of the outgoing and extremely energized tour guides

The Entrance that leads to Harvard Square

It seems as if EVERYONE owned a bike!

Quirky building names! ;)

I didn't want to seem like a total newbie during the meeting so I couldn't capture all the pictures that I wanted to. Then again, this wasn't my official tour into the school. When that happens, I will share more pics and inside peeks.

Sh*t IB Students Have To Do

To start my new "Sh*t IB Students Have To Do" Series, I wanted to share with you guys the Urban Dictionary definition of IB. Legit a true story:

1.IB
International Baccalaureate Program, a high school program for exceptionally gifted students, designed to transform once intelligent creative students into conformists of an international curriculum. This program is known for causing ridiculously high stress levels, mutual hatred and competition amongst it's students, repeated mental breakdowns, bloodshed, lack of a social life, and the mastery of bullshitting your way through things.

IB students are typically extremely masochistic and rarely sleep. It is also known to have made students who once felt quite smart to feel quite stupid, thus greatly lowering their self-esteems.

Another name for IB is hell.
Non-IB student: Hey you want to go hang out tonight?

IB student: Sorry, I can't. I have a chemistry formal report due tomorrow, I have to read about 100 pages for biology, read an entire Shakespeare play, write a research paper about Stalin, do an entire chapter of calculus, and volunteer for 8 hours too.

Non-IB student: Damn.

I have found myself with a lack of sleep, social life, appetite, and time. Simply logging on to Facebook or my email is a sacrifice of so much time. Even after cutting out social media, I still don't have enough time. After getting pile of homework and attempting to complete volunteer hours, you become emotionally drained.

One thing IB students are familiar with is acronym's. I have been approached with the IA, IOP, IW, CAS, EE, TOK, and there are probably at least 20 more.

I've only been in school for 3 WEEKS! If I hear a freshman or sophomore complain about homework I will blow up. Normally when you advance in a grade the load of homework naturally increases. IB abnormally increases and takes over your life with force, there is no turning around. The upside of IB is that colleges take into account that you sacrificed your high school childhood just to get into your top college. They acknowledge that you spent two years in the same classes and spent days crying because of, emotionally and mental build up.

Are you starting IB? ----- May the Gods be with you.

How to Glam Up Your School Uniform

http://elleandblair.com/blog/post/style-spotlight-spice-up-your-school-uniform

If you guys saw my August Favorites list on my facebook page, then you know that I was dying to do a Back to School Outfits video or blog post BUT I have uniform :( So instead I want to share a few ways to glam up your uniform and still feel adorable under uncomfortable button ups and a skirt that just doesn't fit the way you want it to.

Tip #1:

CUTE SOCKS:
Don't be afraid to wear socks with different patterns, colors, and styles. They are a really easy accessory and I think it is so cute when you and your friends are all rocking cute knee-highs!

Tip #2

http://mariahswonderfulworld.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html

ADORABLE HEADBANDS:
Headbands are handy for everyday wear, if you don't already wear these, they are super cheap! You can get a pack of like 10 at Forever 21 for less than $4 and Target has great deals on them too.

Tip #3

http://smartcanucks.ca/aldo-canada-save-30-all-sale-footwear/pile-of-shoes/
SHOES:
Seriously, do I even have to explain or elaborate on why shoes are the #1 accessory for women all over the world?! Legit, I can not even step into a shoe store for the fear that I will purchase everything in my size! Wear different colors and don't be afraid to come out with a new style that no one else is wearing.

Tip #4

HANDBAGS:

I am a huge fan of handbags and purses. I own boxes and boxes of them so, they were an automatic for this list. There are millions of different styles, shapes, and sizes of bags. Try to refrain from shelling out cash for the latest Coach, Longchamp, or LV! Order one from another country or a local boutique in your area.

Alright girlies, that is all I have for today. I am actually taking a day off of school because, I am mentally and physically drained. Thanks mom!!

College Visit to Brown University

Today, I had the opportunity to attend a Computer Science Day at Brown University. As a junior in high school to be placed in events exclusively for high school seniors, made me feel ecstatic. Our day was jammed pack with lectures, small talks, Q & A's, tours, HARVARD VS. BROWN football game!!, Shopping in the gift shop, and so much more! I just overall just really enjoyed my experience. I met a friendly women with an unforgettable name, Cappachinno! :) She really stated something that connected exactly to why I feel I belong at Brown, she said "Some people just have a natural draw to Brown." Today being my first day on the campus, I really felt welcomed and comfortable. I even got mistaking as a Brown Student!! I wanted to tour the library but, I did not have an ID and the guy totally thought I already was a student enrolled there. The atmosphere naturally was patriotic, due to the fact that there was a Harvard vs. Brown football game today and everyone was reaping there school colors. I ended up leaving with 4 pages of notes compiled from the multiple lectures and professor talks I attended. My overall experience was fantastic so, I thought I could savage a few pics for you guys and kind of share a bit of what I experienced today.

The library was so creeppppyy!! It was 13 floors fit for a spooky house theme park!

Cool view from the 13th floor,

Awesome view from the 5th floor :D

My mom creeping around and checking out the area!

With study cubicles like that, I'm sure I won't get distracted!

The Red Tented Brown Book Store! <3 cool="cool" lol="lol" really="really" store="store" td="td">

Banana's Thoughts On Jealousy

Orange you glad, I didn't say banana :p Ok there will be no more stale jokes. This post is actually an intellectual review of a book called Kitchen by Banana Yoshimoto.

I have read Banana Yoshimoto's book, called "Kitchen". Not to be confused with the inanimate object but, Banana Y. is the author of the book and she is pictured below.
To learn more about Banana, here is her website (http://yoshibanana.blogspot.com/).

Banana's book is full of powerful messages. There are so many quotes and comments I could make about the book but, I will give you a piece of what catches my eye within the book.

"Whether she or I were winning or losing, who could say? Who could know which of us was in the better position? The score couldn't be determined. Besides. there was no standard of measure, and, particularly on this cold night, I couldn't even hazard a guess."

This quote depicts my inner thoughts that relay through my head in times of jealousy. At this point in the book, the main character (Mikage) has feelings for a guy and has been approached by some other girl that claims the same. Mikage and the "other women" have just gone through an altercation and Mikage is feeling for the first time, what it is like to fall and feel this deeply for someone. After being alone for such a long time this feeling to Mikage, is alien.

This snippet has the vibe of an ode to single people. Don't let jealousy consume you, be strong!

I really enjoyed sharing this with you guys.

Judging Pageants/Talent Shows

This year, I have been given many opportunity's to judge pageants, fashion shows, and talent shows. This has giving me another perspective on being a contestant. I've been on both sides of the stage; as a contestant and judge.

As a judge, I have learned and experienced a great number of things I will always remember. One of my favorite judging moments was at a pageant where fellas were competing. Boys may be annoyingly silly in everyday life but on stage they are entertaining and funny characters! With a board of all female judges, the boys put on the charm! I could not control my poker face. I love seeing people who are comfortable with who they are, that makes it more fun for everyone.

Events I've judged:

The Ethnic New England Pageant

I am the one on the far right in gray. The contestant were ages 2-14 and this was the cutest event ever. Nothing like Toddlers and Tiaras. No fake boobs, butts, teeth.. nada! Just natural girls and beauty!

Red Carpet Fashion Show
This was actually a Fashion Show that I planned and hosted. The girls were all friends and supporters so it was really exciting seeing my work put into action!

North Quincy Miss & Mr Pageant
(I'm the second one from the left) This event was hosted by a good friend of mine at her local high school. Wicked fun to judge a co-ed event!

Red Cross Annual Talent Show
The Red Cross holds an annual talent show and as the President of the Red Cross Club at my school and community influencer, it was an honor to be apart of this production. Alongside me were a magazine editor in chief, news reporter, and music artist (And then there was me, pageant queen). I was able to network and meet great people and to judge alongside professional artists and magazine editors was an extraordinary experience!

Also judging the local Boston talent was amazing. There were dancing groups, singers, spoken word, and more!

All I could do was be myself and praise God for giving me these opportunities.

Annual Red Cross Talent Show w/ Mrs. Massachusetts 2013

Here is another show hosted by the Massachusetts Red Cross. It was an honor to judge again and this time was some more great community builders and celebrities!

That's me in the middle with the pink and grey. On the right is Janelle, a fellow sister queen.

Let me judge your next event!

Quote Of The Day: 09/14/12

"The only way to embrace change, is to prepare for it.."

(I am not sure whether or not some philosopher came up with that but, it basically describes some upcoming events in my life. stay tuned ;)

For me change meant; being a public role model for teens. Even through community service and school clubs, I never felt the since of duty that being a pageant queen gave me.

Treat yourself, Trust me. -MsRandomKitty

Indulging in a sweet treat some part of the week when you are at your lowest is the best thing to do to your motivation. Maybe you might have to shell out a bit of cash but, believe me sinking your lips in to that cold, homemade, ice cream or whatever you get, will be enough satisfaction to last me for a few days. For me: Pumpkin and Cookie Dough Waffle Cone ♥ .. my little weekly treat ;) #Fall #Delicious..

High School Sweethearts

As middle school girls anxious to grow up, we all hankered over pre-teen magazines that gave us countless pop quizzes and statistics that basically guaranteed dubious wishes and lusts. Like, oh yeah, PopGirl Teen Magazine (not real) says that if I stop obsessing over my current crush, that there is a 89% chance he will notice me. Or.. wear that cool new shirt you just brought to catch the eye of that new hottie in town. I was one of those middle school girls that took the quizzes to figure out if Zach Efron was my dream guy or Jesse McCartney. Secretly, we believed those things. Every once in a while at the grocery store we'll pick up one of those magazines and relish on our childish thoughts because, now that we're pass middle school and into our upperclassman roles in high school, we know that life would have to be damn near perfect for any of those quizzes or statistics to be true. Maybe your one of those few exceptions that the quizzes and statistics were based off of. Maybe you were the "Popular Chick" or "Down to Earth girl" or maybe even the "Girl Next Door", all that matters is that we need some type of assurance that our dreams will come true no matter what. That knight in shining armor is out there hidden in the depths of New York City or California.
http://www.hercampus.com/
But while we wait, there is that little presence in our life that we fail to give credit to. That one guy in a girl's life that you feel comfortable talking to. No not the famous "Best Friend turned into Boy Friend" but more like the "High School Sweetheart." Everyone fails to realize that there are many different "High School Sweetheart." Maybe, your that rare couple that stays glued to each other since the freshman orientation. Maybe, your the couple that with the help of a miracle somehow found each other in the midst of high school hallways. Maybe, your the couple that met through family, friends, or some outside interaction. Then there is the couple that have seasons in there relationship because you don't know what time of the year they are together or broken up. Then finally, there is the relationship that ended due to some silly high school mistake. That couple will learn a lot in life after they mature enough to break through and realize there true feelings for each other. Teen Magazines tell us that high school sweethearts have 60% to 70% chance of obtaining a marriage. Personally, in the midst of high school, I am not sure I can believe that. I could not fathom the thought of any of the people at my school marrying each other, it is such a far out idea. Honestly, my advice to you guys.. Live your life to the fullest and whatever you are, be a good one. If you want to be that "Mysterious Girl", be a good one and don't hesitate. If you want to be the a girlfriend, then be the best darn one you can be. You make mistakes, accept them. Boyfriends make mistake, Accept one ;) ... continue on.

Goal = Finish before college.

Help! I need more money for this! lol

COMMENT BELOW : What is on your list?

We all have those things we wished we could do. We either don't have the time, finances, or whatever it is. So, this summer some of my friends and I contributed to the ultimate bucket list... What should we add?

Quote of the Day: 09/04/12

"Sex is some next-level stuff where emotions are concerned" -Danielle (RookieMAG)

Why Can't You Wear White After Labor Day?

Today during nonchalant conversation with the newbies at my school, someone jokingly mention "So, um.. tonight I have to get rid of all of my white shorts, shirts, etc.. etc.. yatyy yatyy." Everyone has their own theory of why this rule of not wearing white after Labor Day came to be but really, they know nothing about everything. Why Labor Day and not Christmas or Halloween? Well Labor Day was established in the mid-1800's, the time of money and wide spread wealth. It was gradually becoming harder and harder to differentiate between Old Money, New Money, and people who just happened to find a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. So to make things easier, women, yes... *sigh*.. I think it was women who started this. Who would even fathom the thought of a man being this precocious about fashion statements? LOL .. Anyway, women came up with a bajillion rules and regulations for women who were currently in well known families and knew the "IN" crowd. This way, if a women walked into an exclusive event wearing an amazing dress and looked like a "bag of money" BUT the type of collar she wore was wrong for the season.. Everyone knew not to even pay her any attention and just go on pursuing their endeavors for the evening. Cruel, isn't it! (SMH)

Photo taken during visit at MIT sailing facilities.

Ok darlings, today has been solid.
# I completed a blog post.
# Had an amazing dinner with my family.
# Volunteered with my schools New Student Orientation
# PLUS found a bill on the ground, while walking home.
^^^^^ This is a day I wouldn't mind repeating. Quite comfortable and calm.
